Powerchair football is a dynamic sport that allows individuals with physical disabilities to participate in competitive play. However, a significant challenge arises for non-verbal players, who often struggle to communicate effectively with their teammates during the fast-paced action of a match.
The “Cumplicidade, Confiança, e Coragem” (3Cs) is an NGO that contributes to the social inclusion of people with disabilities, providing them with equal opportunities to participate in cultural, sporting and recreational activities. Moreover, they are the official entity representing Portugal in powerchair football worldwide.
3Cs commissioned a collaborative project in 2025 to co-develop a real-time communication tool for nonverbal players. Although the consortium has begun conducting ethnographic work during powerchair football training sessions, the project is scheduled to kick off in 2026.
